Jan Lazar, Senior Vice President
Originally from Chicago, Jan Lazar received her Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Master of Science in Public Affairs from Northern Illinois University. She received a CFP designation from the College for Financial Planning in Colorado in 1987 as well as broadening her training in other areas, resulting in her having professional and technical designations in several other related areas. She worked for the Illinois Department of Mental Health for six years as a program development professional and administrator, then moved to Michigan where she served as Budget & Management Director for a city of over 130,000 from the mid 70’s until the early 90’s, when she became a full time consultant. She has served several times as Interim Executive for local governments while assisting in them in recruitment of permanent managers. She has taught at the community college level for more than 20 years in several areas including government, investing, financial planning and has conducted numerous seminars for governmental managers in financial areas and benefit costing and design. She has several publications to her credit and has served on a number of community boards, usually as treasurer. She is also a past President and Honorary Life Member of the Michigan Municipal Finance Officers Association, five time Chair of the Government Finance Officers Association’s national Committee on Budgeting & Management, long time member of the Michigan Municipal League Finance & Taxation Committee and the Michigan State Treasurer’s Advisory Committee on Governmental Auditing and Accounting. Ms. Lazar joined the Mercer Group in 1997 and, is the Senior Vice President who heads the Michigan office specializing in finance, fringe benefit design and costing, and compensation and management analysis.
